Ghana Armed Forces Dismiss Claims of HIV-Related Medical Failures as Fake News

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly denied circulating reports claiming that a significant number of applicants failed recent military medical examinations due to HIV infection. According to the military, the allegation is false and should be disregarded by the public.

In a press release issued on January 25, 2026, by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, GAF described the publication as “fake news.” The report in question alleged that about 60 percent of applicants who underwent medical screening for military recruitment tested positive for HIV. The Armed Forces clarified that no such results have been released and that the medical screening process is still ongoing.

The statement emphasized that, as of now, no official conclusions have been declared regarding the medical status of applicants. GAF cautioned the public against accepting unverified information circulating on social media and other online platforms.

Furthermore, the military revealed that steps are being taken to identify and trace the originators of the misleading story. It reiterated its commitment to ensuring accuracy and transparency in all official communications related to recruitment and medical screening processes.

The Ghana Armed Forces also issued a strong reminder to media practitioners, bloggers, vloggers, and content creators to exercise professionalism by crosschecking facts before publication. According to the statement, irresponsible reporting has the potential to cause unnecessary panic, stigmatization, and misinformation.

The press release was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations. She urged the public to rely solely on official GAF communication channels for credible and verified information.

GAF concluded by reaffirming its dedication to maintaining high standards in its recruitment process while protecting the integrity of applicants and the institution as a whole.
