The Ghana Police Service has officially opened applications for its 2025 nationwide recruitment drive, inviting qualified Ghanaian citizens to apply and serve in various capacities within the security agency. The recruitment exercise covers General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and Tradeswomen, Degree Holders, and Specialized Professionals.
According to the Police Service, the initiative forms part of continuous efforts to strengthen security delivery across the country and enhance public safety. Applicants are therefore encouraged to carefully review the eligibility criteria before submitting their applications.
General Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be Ghanaian by birth and hold a valid Ghana Card
- Have no criminal record
- Be physically and medically fit
- Be between 18 and 25 years for General Duty applicants
- Be up to 35 years for applicants with professional qualifications
- Attain a minimum of five passes in WASSCE/SSSCE, including English and Mathematics
- Meet the minimum height requirements of:
- 1.73m (5’8”) for males
- 1.63m (5’4”) for females
Additionally, graduate applicants must have completed their national service.
Recruitment Categories
The Police Service disclosed that the 2025 intake will focus on the following groups:
General Duty Recruits
Applicants with at least WASSCE/SSSCE qualification and who meet the physical and medical criteria.
Tradesmen and Tradeswomen
Qualified individuals in vocational and technical fields, including:
- Motor Vehicle Mechanics
- Drivers and Riders
- Electricians
- Tailors and Seamstresses
- Painters and Carpenters
- Welders and Fabricators
- Masons and Plumbers
- Bandsmen
- Refrigeration Technicians
- Sportsmen and Sportswomen
Trade applicants are required to possess NVTI, COVET or equivalent certification.
Graduate Recruits
Degree holders from accredited institutions who have completed national service.
Professional Officers
The service is also seeking qualified experts in specialized fields such as:

1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
All applicants shall satisfy these requirements in addition to the specific requirement for a specific category. An applicant must:
a. be a Ghanaian by birth;
b. be of good character;
c. not have been dismissed from any public service or any other employment;
d. not be more than the age stated for a specific category by 1/11/2025;
e. be at least 5 feet 8 inches (173cm) for males and 5 feet 4 inches (163cm) for females;
f. be physically and medically fit by Ghana Police Service standards;
g. have 5 passes in BECE including English and Mathematics;
h. be ready to undergo basic Police training and other forms of training;
i. have completed National Service for graduate applicants.
2. CATEGORIES OF ENTRY
A. GENERAL DUTY RECRUITS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
i. must not be less than 18 years of age and not more than 30 years by 1/11/2025;
ii. must possess a minimum of five passes in SSSCE/WASSSCE including Mathematics and English.
B. TRADESMEN RECRUITS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant who applies to this category must satisfy the requirements stated under the specific sub-category:
i. MOTOR VEHICLE MECHANICS
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025 and must possess any of the following:
b. GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Automobile Engineering;
c. GES Intermediate Certificate in Vehicle Mechanics;
d. City & Guilds Certificate in Mechanical Engineering;
e. City & Guilds Intermediate (Internal Combustion Engines and Motor Vehicle).
ii. DRIVERS/RIDERS
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must either possess five (5) passes in SSSCE/WASSSCE or GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in any Technical or Vocational Programme or Programme and:
c. must possess Drivers’ License “B” or above which should not be less than two (2) years old;
d. Must possess Riders’ License “A” which should not be less than two (2) years old.
iii. ELECTRICIANS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Electrical Installation in any Technical or Vocational Programme or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Electrical Installation in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
ii. City & Guilds Certificate in Electrical Engineering in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
iii. Electrical Engineering Technology Part I (GES) in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
iv. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
iv. PLUMBERS & MASONS
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Plumbing/Masonry or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Plumbing/Masonry in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
ii. City & Guilds Certificate in Plumbing/Masonry in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
iii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Plumbing/Masonry in any Technical or Vocational Programmes.
v. PAINTING/SIGN WRITING
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Painting/Sign Writing or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Painting/Sign Writing in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
ii. City & Guilds Certificate in Painting/Sign Writing in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
iii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Painting/Sign Writing in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
vi. TAILORS/SEAMSTRESSES
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Tailoring or:
i. Diploma/HND in Fashion Design or
ii. GES Intermediate Certificate in Tailoring in any Technical or Vocational Programme or
iii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Tailoring in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
vii. WOOD CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY (CARPENTRY)
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Carpentry or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Wood Construction Technology in any Technical or Vocational Programme;
ii. City & Guilds Certificate in Carpentry/Joinery in any Technical or Vocational Programme;
iii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Wood Construction Technology in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
GHANA POLICE SERVICE
WELDER & STEEL BENDER
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Welding and Fabrication or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Fabrication in any Technical or Vocational Programme;
ii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Welding and Fabrication in any Technical or Vocational Programme;
iii. Construction in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
REFRIGERATION
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess either GES (COTVET) Certificate I or Certificate II or National Proficiency I or II Certificates in Refrigeration or:
i. GES Intermediate Certificate in Refrigeration in any Technical or Vocational Programme;
ii. NVTI Proficiency II or Certificate I or Certificate II in Refrigeration in any Technical or Vocational Programme.
SPORTSMEN
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
a. must not be less than 18 years of age and not more than 30 years by 1/11/2025;
b. proven track record in recognized sports discipline;
c. be proficient in any of the following fields:
i. Boxing
ii. Football
iii. Handball
iv. Basketball
v. Hockey
vi. Tennis
vii. Table tennis
viii. Volleyball
ix. Athletics (Track & Field)
x. Badminton
xi. Arm Wrestling
xii. Martial Art
d. meet Ghana Police Service physical standards;
e. pass full medical examination;
f. exhibit discipline, good character, and team spirit;
g. pass sports specific trials during recruitment;
h. shortlisted players or professionals will undergo justification in their respective sports disciplines;
i. applicants affiliated with clubs and actively participate in recognized sports association leagues shall have an advantage during the selection process.
BAND
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
a. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
b. must possess five (5) passes in SSSCE/WASSSCE;
c. must have any of the following:
i. ability to sight-read musical notes;
ii. ability to play woodwind or Brass instruments;
iii. Proficiency in basic music (ABRSM) Theory Grade 4 will be an added advantage.
C. GRADUATES (GENERAL DUTY)
I. Degree Holders
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
i. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
ii. must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) from any recognized university.
II. HND Holders
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
i. must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
ii. must hold HND in any field of study from a recognized Technical University or any Tertiary Institution accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
III. Diploma Holders
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
i. must not be more than 32 years by 1/11/2025;
ii. must hold a Diploma in any field of study from a recognized Technical University or any Tertiary Institution accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
D. MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS
i. Medical Doctors
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent in addition to a permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council;
- must have at least one (1) year post qualification working experience in a recognized health facility.
ii. Medical Specialist
An applicant must not be more than 40 years by 1/11/2025:
- must be a member of the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana;
- must have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from a recognized College; plus, a relevant Post Graduate qualification to at least two (2) years post qualification experience in any of the following professions:
a. General Surgeons;
b. Obstetrics / Gynecologists;
c. Ophthalmologist;
d. Ear Nose and Throat;
e. Doctor Anaesthetist;
f. Orthopedic Surgeon;
g. Psychiatrist;
h. Plastic Surgeon;
i. Dental Surgeon;
j. Emergency Physician Specialists;
k. Radiologist;
l. Pediatrician.
iii. Pharmacist
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must possess a minimum of Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (BPharm) (at least Second-class Lower Division) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Master in Pharmacy (MPharm) from a university accredited by the Ghana Accreditation Board;
- be registered with the Pharmacy Council and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana with at least one(1) year post National Service working experience as a pharmacist;
- Must be a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana.
iv. Nursing Services
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 32 years for HND/Certificate holders and 35 years for degree holders by 1/11/2025;
- must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council;
- must possess at least a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in the relevant area of Nursing listed below:
a. ENT Nurses;
b. Intensive Care Nurses;
c. Nurse Anesthetists;
d. Ophthalmic Nurses;
e. Orthopedic Nurses;
f. Psychiatric Nurses;
g. Public Health Nurses;
h. Theatre Nurses (Peri-operative).
GHANA POLICE SERVICE
i. Midwives
- Registered General Nurses
- Certificate Nurses
- Community Health Nurses
- Nurse Assistants Preventive
- Must have passed the requisite licensure exams.
v. SPECIALIZED NURSING
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must be a Registered General Nurse;
- must have a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Nursing (at least Second-Class Lower Division) from an accredited University and a qualification in any of the specialty listed below with at least two (2) years post qualification experience:
a. Critical Care;
b. ENT;
c. Peri-Operative;
d. Emergency Care;
e. Pediatrics;
f. Ophthalmic Nursing.
vi. MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc in HND/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science.
vii. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have a BSc. Physician Assistantship (at least Second-Class Lower Division) from an accredited University and two (2) years post qualification experience;
- must have permanently registered with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
viii. CERTIFIED REGISTERED ANAESTHETISTS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc or Advance Diploma in Anaesthesia.
ix. HEALTH INFORMATICS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have a degree, HND or Diploma in Health Statistics.
x. CLINICAL NUTRITIONIST/DIETICIANS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc. in Nutrition (at least Second-Class Lower Division) from a university accredited by the Ghana Accreditation Board, with at least one (1) year post National Service working experience as a nutritionist in a recognised health facility.
xi. PHYSIOTHERAPIST
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have MSc. Physiotherapy from a university accredited by the Ghana Accreditation Board, with at least one (1) year post National Service working experience as a Physiotherapist in a recognised health facility.
xii. PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICERS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc. Environmental Science or BSc. Public Health (Environmental Health or Disease Control Option) (at least Second-Class Lower Division) from a University accredited by the Ghana Accreditation Board, with at least one (1) year post National Service working experience as a Public Health Officer in a recognised health facility.
xiii. BMS / HISTO TECHNOLOGIST
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc in Histopathology with Histo-Technology background.
xiv. PHARMACY TECHNOLOGISTS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have SSSCE/WASSSCE together with HND in Pharmacy Technology from a recognized institution plus two (2) years post qualification experience.
xv. SONOGRAPHERS
In addition to the general requirements, an applicant:
- must not be more than 35 years by 1/11/2025;
- must have BSc in Sonography.
xv. RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
(a) ORDAINED MINISTER OR CHAPLAIN
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must:
- must not be more than 40 years by 1/11/2025;
- have at least a first degree in Theology;
- be of good standing in a Christian denomination approved by any of the following bodies: the Ghana Catholic Secretariat, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Pentecostal Council of Ghana or other recognized Christian Bodies.
(b) IMAM
In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must:
- must not be more than 40 years by 1/11/2025;
- have at least a first degree in Islamic Studies with an excellent knowledge of Arabic;
- be of good standing in a Muslim denomination approved by any of the following bodies: the office of the National / Regional Chief Imam, the office of the Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission or other similar nationally recognized Muslim bodies.
