[CHECKLIST] University of Ghana sanctions over 100 students for misconduct and exam malpractice
Following a judgment by the Academic Board, the University of Ghana released a list of 115 students who were disciplined for a variety of misbehaviors and exam malpractice.
According to a notice from the Office of the Registrar dated June 16, 2025, the sanctions include grade penalties, reprimands, suspensions, and expulsions.
The sanctions are divided into two main categories: general misconduct and examination-related offenses. Fourteen students, including Mr. Abdul-Yakini Lukman and Mr. Daniel Ansah, were suspended for two academic years for “disorderly conduct and failure to observe the orders of University authorities,” as per Statutes 42(1)(a) of the University of Ghana Statutes 2011. The suspensions are retroactive, covering the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years.
Examination malpractices accounted for the majority of cases. Students such as Mr. Christian Owusu Yeboah and Ms. Linda Attah Lambongyi were expelled for impersonation during exams, while others like Mr. Ramsey Akoto Junior received Grade Z for leaving the examination hall with answer booklets. Possession of unauthorised materials, including mobile phones and written notes, led to penalties such as Grade X or Grade Z, depending on the severity of the offense.
Mr. Eugene Nimo Obeng was suspended for one semester in addition to receiving Grade Z for possessing unauthorised material and exposing his answers to another candidate.
Ms. Lilian N.L Miller faced a one-semester suspension and Grade Z for repeated offenses involving unauthorised notes during exams.
Ms. Fatimah Iddriss and Justice Nii-Amo received reprimands for rudeness towards invigilators and communication during exams, respectively.
The notice signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, emphasised the importance of adherence to university regulations, stating, “All students are advised to familiarise themselves with the University’s regulations and conduct themselves in a manner befitting members of our community.” The notice was distributed to all university employees and students, with copies sent to senior administrators.
