GES Clears the Air on 2025 WASSCE Discussions, Sets Records Straight

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released an official statement addressing the growing public debate surrounding the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The management of GES says the clarification has become necessary to ensure a balanced and factual national conversation following the release of the examination results.

In the statement, GES firmly rejected claims made by former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, suggesting that the performance of students in the 2025 WASSCE was influenced by poor management practices. According to the Service, such comments are misleading and should be disregarded by the public.

GES also refuted reports alleging that teacher allowances had been cancelled. The institution emphasized that no such decision had been made, and noted that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) had already explained the reasons behind the delay in payment of November allowances.

The release further highlighted management’s confidence in this year’s results, describing them as a genuine reflection of candidates’ academic abilities. GES stated that the outcome represents a credible and fair assessment of student performance across the country.

Ahead of the examinations, the Ministry of Education and GES issued a clear warning that any staff or student caught aiding or abetting exam malpractice would face severe sanctions. This directive, the Service explained, was strictly enforced nationwide. As a result, heightened supervision, strict adherence to examination protocols, and tighter invigilation minimized malpractice incidents during the 2025 WASSCE.

GES stressed the importance of upholding the integrity of the examination process, noting that a credible exam system strengthens the nation’s educational standards. The Service also acknowledged that maintaining a fair, transparent system benefits not only students but also parents, educators, and the broader society.

The statement additionally reminded the public that Ghana will transition fully to the international WASSCE—taken by all West African nations—in May/June 2026. In this regard, students have been advised to prepare adequately for the upcoming shift.

The release, signed by Daniel Fenyí, Head of Public Relations at GES, concluded with a firm reassurance that the Service will not compromise the credibility of any examination under its watch.
