GES Drops List of 2025/26 Prospectus for Boarders
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the harmonized prospectus for boarding students for the 2025/26 academic year. This comprehensive list outlines the essential items students need to bring to ensure a smooth and comfortable stay in boarding schools across the country. Released by Daniel Fenyi, the Public Relations Officer of GES, the prospectus emphasizes preparedness and uniformity, with all personal items required to be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name for easy identification.
Essential Items for Students
The prospectus details a wide range of items tailored to meet the daily needs of boarding students. Personal belongings include a hard body suitcase or trunk, a chop box (wooden or plastic), a drinking cup (plastic or stainless), a plate, and a set of cutlery. Hygiene is prioritized with a list of toiletries such as deodorant, a T-roll, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, pomade, and two packs of sanitary pads for girls. Footwear options include school-specific decent sandals, leather slippers, and black or white sneakers, alongside two pairs of school-specific socks and one set of pajamas or sleepwear.
Underwear requirements specify five pants and three vests for girls, and three boxer shorts or pants with three singlets for boys. Additional items include a plastic bucket with a cover and pail, as well as an RSV/NIV Bible or Quran and a hymn book for Christians, tailored to school specifications. Bedding essentials comprise a pillow covered with mackintosh, two students’ bedsheets with two pillowcases (plain white), one blanket, and a sleeping cloth. Clothing items include a pair of khaki trousers, a pair of white trousers (or school-specific alternatives), a white dress for ladies, two white shirts (one short-sleeve and one long-sleeve), and a student-sized mosquito net.
For academic purposes, students must bring a school bag, a mathematical set, a scientific calculator, and two checked dresses where applicable. Practical items like a student mattress (where not provided by the school), school-specific shoes and belt, and a hoe or cutlass are also required.
School-Supplied Items
Parents and guardians are instructed to purchase cleaning and maintenance items from one of three designated groups. The first group includes a pair of hand gloves, 1 kg of washing powdered soap, and 5 liters of liquid soap. The second group offers one bleach (small size), one dustpan, one long-handle broom, and one scrubbing brush. The third group comprises one standing mop with a mop bucket, one duster, and one short local broom.
Key Notes
The GES underscores the importance of personalization, mandating that all personal items be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name to prevent loss or mix-ups. This initiative reflects the service’s commitment to fostering an organized and supportive environment for boarding students.
