The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Friday, December 5, 2025, will be observed nationwide as a Statutory Public Holiday in honour of Farmers’ Day. The declaration serves as a reminder of the country’s unwavering commitment to celebrating the tireless efforts, resilience, and immense contributions of Ghanaian farmers to national development.
In a statement released on Friday, November 28, 2025, the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), emphasized that the public holiday should be fully observed across all regions of the country. He noted that Farmers’ Day remains an important occasion dedicated to acknowledging the vital role of farmers and fishers in ensuring food security, supporting the economy, and sustaining local industries.
Farmers’ Day, celebrated annually on the first Friday of December, has become a significant event on the national calendar. It provides an opportunity for the nation to recognize individuals and groups whose hard work and innovation continue to shape Ghana’s agricultural landscape. The celebration also inspires younger generations to appreciate agriculture as a strategic and rewarding sector.
As preparations for the commemoration intensify, many districts and regions are expected to organize durbars, award ceremonies, exhibitions, and cultural performances to honour outstanding farmers. The Ministry encourages the general public to participate in the celebrations, use the holiday responsibly, and reflect on the importance of agriculture to Ghana’s growth.
The announcement reinforces the government’s commitment to appreciating the agricultural community and reaffirming the sector’s central role in national progress.
