Headmaster Arrested for Allegedly Impregnating Final-Year JHS Student in Western

The headmaster of Prevailing Academy, a basic school in the Shama District of the Western Region, has been arrested following allegations that he impregnated a final-year Junior High School (JHS) student. The suspect, identified as Mr. Isaac Dunkwa, was taken into police custody after the matter was brought to the attention of local authorities by concerned family members and community leaders.

According to reports, the incident came to light after the student’s family noticed changes in her condition and questioned her, leading to shocking revelations implicating the headmaster. Upon receiving the complaint, police in Shama swiftly launched an investigation, confirming the arrest of Mr. Dunkwa. Law enforcement officials say inquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.

Preliminary information suggests that the headmaster allegedly attempted to convince another student to take responsibility for the pregnancy, a development that has sparked outrage among parents, education stakeholders, and the broader community. Police have yet to issue a detailed statement on the matter, but sources close to the investigation indicate that officers are working diligently to establish whether any criminal offences, including defilement or coercion, were committed.

Officials from child-protection organisations and education authorities have since condemned the alleged act, describing it as a gross abuse of authority and a betrayal of trust. They called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to ensure justice for the minor involved. “Teachers are entrusted with the moral and academic growth of children, not to take advantage of them,” one child-rights advocate stated, urging that the case be handled with the utmost care to protect the dignity and privacy of the victim.

Attempts to reach representatives of Prevailing Academy and the Shama District Police Command for official comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication, as calls and messages to both parties did not elicit an immediate response. Authorities have appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in the pursuit of justice. The case continues to draw public attention as the community awaits the outcome of the investigation.
