An 18-year-old junior high school student from Tutu Akwapim is currently serving a six-month prison sentence for theft.
The teenager, who lost both parents, admitted to stealing a goat to fund his educational expenses.
With no support system, he felt compelled to acquire basic necessities like a school uniform and shoes to continue his studies. Despite his desperation, he now faces the consequences of his actions at the Koforidua Local Prison.
In a heartfelt social media video, Richard shared the struggles that led him to make a difficult choice. He revealed that without financial support, he desperately needed basic school items, including a uniform and shoes, to progress to the next level of junior high school. After exhausting all avenues for help, Richard resorted to stealing the goat, hoping to sell it and raise the necessary funds to stay in school.
I am 18 years old. I stole a goat. I am student in JHS 3 at Tutu Akwapim. I am orphan, I’ve lost both parents. I needed some school items and I didn’t have someone to support me. So I stole the goat so I could sell and support myself through school. I needed school uniform and shoes, he confessed.
