KNUST SHS Student in Viral Video Speaks Out, Clarifies Her Age, Begs Not to Arrest The Headmaster
The female student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) who was captured in a viral video with the school’s Assistant Headmaster has broken her silence on her true age.
In an interview with Adom News reporter Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, the student firmly dismissed reports suggesting she was only 13 years old. According to her, she is 19 years old, born on July 21, 2006.
“Just tell them I am 19 years old; I was born on July 21, 2006. I’m not 13 years old,” she emphasized.
The controversy stems from a viral video that showed the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST SHS, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, in a compromising situation with the student. Following the incident, the Ghana Education Service (GES) swiftly relieved Mr. Aidoo of his post on Monday, pending further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection released a statement claiming the student was 13 years old and called for the immediate arrest of the assistant headmaster. This conflicting information about the student’s age has further intensified the ongoing public debate surrounding the scandal.
As investigations continue, the case has raised concerns about teacher-student relationships, safeguarding minors, and the need for accurate verification of facts before public statements are made. The final outcome is expected to shape future policies on protecting students within Ghana’s educational institutions.
