Lecturer in Trouble After Being Caught on Camera in Alleged Sɛxuàl Misconduct Scandal With His Student

A senior lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), identified as Professor Abraham Chinedu, has found himself in deep trouble after being caught on video in a compromising situation with a female student. The shocking footage, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked widespread outrage and reignited conversations about sexual harassment and abuse of power in Nigerian universities.

According to multiple reports, Professor Chinedu, who lectures in the Department of Statistics, has long faced accusations from students of demanding sexual favours from female students in exchange for better grades. For years, he reportedly dismissed these claims as mere fabrications intended to tarnish his reputation. However, the latest development has cast a shadow over his denials and raised serious questions about professional ethics and accountability within academia.

In what appears to be a well-coordinated sting operation, a group of concerned students allegedly decided to expose the lecturer’s misconduct once and for all. Working together, they arranged a setup in which a female student agreed to meet the professor under the pretense of seeking help with her grades. Unbeknownst to him, a hidden camera was recording the entire encounter.

The disturbing video shows the lecturer attempting to lure the young woman into a sexual act, allegedly promising to help her improve her academic performance in exchange. Throughout the footage, Professor Chinedu is seen making suggestive remarks and touching the visibly uncomfortable student inappropriately. Despite his persistence, the student is heard firmly rejecting his advances, repeatedly resisting his attempts to engage her in any sexual activity.

The video quickly spread online, drawing harsh criticism from the public and calls for the university to take swift action. Many social media users have condemned the incident as yet another example of the “sex-for-grades” problem that continues to plague tertiary institutions in Nigeria and across Africa.

While the university’s management has yet to release an official statement on the incident, sources within UNN have confirmed that the case has been referred to the disciplinary committee for internal investigation. The committee is expected to review the video evidence, gather testimonies, and determine appropriate sanctions if the lecturer is found guilty of misconduct.

Meanwhile, several student groups and gender advocacy organizations have urged the institution to ensure transparency and justice in handling the matter. They insist that any attempt to cover up or downplay the issue would only embolden other predatory lecturers and further endanger vulnerable students.

One student leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed disappointment that such acts still occur within a prestigious university like UNN. “We have reported similar cases in the past, but most of them don’t go beyond internal warnings. This time, we want justice to be served,” the student said.

The case has also prompted renewed calls for stronger sexual harassment policies in higher education. Activists argue that while many universities have anti-harassment regulations on paper, enforcement remains weak, allowing lecturers who abuse their power to escape consequences.

As the investigation unfolds, the reputation of both Professor Chinedu and the University of Nigeria hangs in the balance. The outcome of this case may serve as a crucial test of the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and protecting the dignity of its students.

For now, the public awaits the university’s official response, hoping that the matter will be handled with fairness, firmness, and transparency—sending a clear message that sexual exploitation in the academic environment will no longer be tolerated.
