Major Update to Licensure Examination (GTLE) for 2025

National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced a significant overhaul of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), marking a new era in teacher assessment. This update replaces the previous examination format with a revamped structure aimed at enhancing the relevance and quality of evaluations for aspiring educators in Ghana.
The former GTLE assessed candidates across three broad areas: Literacy, Numeracy, and Essential Skills. In contrast, the new format shifts to a Subject-Based Testing approach, tailored specifically to each candidate’s area of specialization. This change is intended to foster deeper mastery of content and ensure alignment with professional teaching standards, better preparing teachers for their roles in the classroom.
To ensure a smooth transition, the NTC has provided clear advice and cautions for candidates. Firstly, it is imperative that training institutions upload candidates’ indexing details before the registration process begins. During registration, candidates must meticulously verify personal information such as names and dates of birth, reporting any discrepancies to the NTC immediately. After registration, candidates are urged to print and securely store their Serial Number and PIN, as these will be critical for future access. Notably, no amendments will be permitted after the examination deadline, and late indexing or registration will not be accepted.
The registration guidelines emphasize strict adherence to protocol. Candidates are prohibited from using a single voucher for multiple registrations, as this will result in disqualification. Eligibility is restricted to those who have completed professional teacher education. The registration window is set for October 13-15, 2025, with an indexing deadline of September 28, 2025. For any queries, candidates are encouraged to reach out to the NTC or their respective training institutions.
This update reflects a commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity in the teacher licensing process. As the education sector continues to evolve, the new GTLE format promises to strengthen the quality of teaching in Ghana, ensuring that only the most qualified educators enter the profession.
