Senior Staff of public universities begin indefinite strike over unfulfilled gov’t agreement
Beginning on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), the Technical University Administrators Association, and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association have declared an indefinite strike.
This action follows the failure of successive governments to honour a six-month-old agreement intended to improve their conditions of service.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com, the unions have declared that they will remain on strike until their demands are met.
The National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, George Ansong, expressed concern over the government’s persistent inaction despite numerous engagements.
“The Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana (TUWAG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) announce, with deep regret but unwavering resolve, our decision to embark on an indefinite strike action,” he stated.
He noted that despite repeated rounds of dialogue, reminders, and extended deadlines, the government has failed to fulfil its promises, eroding trust and undermining cooperation between the parties.
“The government has continuously reneged on its commitment, thereby undermining the trust and cooperation that should exist between both parties,” he added.
