Two Students Dead, Dozens Injured, Teachers Stuck in Bee Attack at Anloga School; GES Issues Statement

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed a tragic bee attack at Anloga E.P. Basic School in the Volta Region, an incident that has left the school community and the nation in deep mourning. The unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and resulted in multiple injuries and the loss of two young learners.

In an official statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of GES on December 19, 2025, management disclosed that the incident involved a sudden bee infestation on the school premises. According to the report, a total of thirty (30) persons were affected during the attack, including learners, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

Among those affected were five teachers who sustained bee stings while courageously attempting to rescue learners from danger. Their actions, described as selfless and heroic, helped prevent further casualties. In addition, three school feeding cooks were also injured in the course of the incident. Tragically, twenty-two learners were affected, and two of them lost their lives, casting a dark shadow over the entire school community.

The Ghana Education Service expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, acknowledging the pain and grief caused by the loss. Management described the incident as heartbreaking and assured the affected families that they are not alone during this difficult period.

GES further extended its well wishes to all victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries. The Service assured them of full institutional support throughout their recovery process, emphasizing its commitment to the welfare and safety of both learners and staff across the country.

The statement also highlighted the swift response of key emergency and community stakeholders. Management commended the teachers, officials of the Ghana National Fire Service, and community members whose timely intervention helped to bring the situation under control. Their quick actions were credited with preventing further harm and restoring calm to the school environment.

In response to the incident, GES revealed that it is working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the District Chief Executive to address the root cause of the attack. Measures are being put in place to completely eliminate the bees’ habitat and to prevent any future occurrence of a similar nature.

The Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment for all learners. It also stressed the importance of proactive risk assessments and collaboration with relevant agencies to safeguard school communities, especially in areas prone to environmental hazards.
