VIDEO: Headmaster Beats Teacher for Reporting to School late; Teacher is being Admitted to Hospital
A class six teacher who was hospitalized after being physically abused in class by the headteacher of his school has spoken out about the experience.
Teachers from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Nyamira division threatened to go on strike in support of their colleague Vincent Onyancha after he was brutally attacked by his supervisor.
The headmaster followed him and started striking him, according to the teacher, even though he had arrived at the elementary school a little late and had gone directly to class.
I arrived at work at the school a little later than expected on Friday, February 21. I went to class and began teaching as soon as I got there. The principal came in and began beating me up while I was teaching. Onyancha described the strange event by saying, “He slapped me and beat me so hard.”
He then pulled me into his office, where he kicked and struck me until I was on the ground. I had to be admitted to the hospital after suffering severe injuries,” he continued.
Onyancha’s injuries included injuries to his crotch area, a partially ruined left eardrum, and other physical wounds.
Onyancha claimed that the headteacher, who was larger and physically stronger than he was, had inflicted the wounds on him with his bare hands and blamed his tardiness for the brutal beating he received.
The Nyanchoka Primary School teacher demanded that the headmaster be subject to intervention and action from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), KUPPET, and other human rights organizations.
