2025 BECE: Candidate gives birth to baby boy during ICT exam in Ashanti Region

A BECE candidate delivered a baby boy during an ICT exam in the Ashanti Region A pregnant student sitting for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) shocked many after going into labour and giving birth during her ICT paper. The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Asenua Presbyterian Junior High School Examination Centre in Mamponteng, located in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to reports, a policewoman escorting the candidate to the washroom on the first day of the examination noticed signs of distress. Upon entering the facility, she discovered that the student was already in labour.

A teacher at the examination center, Desmond Adjei, told Ultimate 106.9 FM that the student was quickly moved to the headmaster’s office, where she successfully delivered a bouncing baby boy.

He further disclosed to reporter Ivan Heathcote–Fumador that the pastor of the Asenua Presbyterian Church stepped in to assist. He transported both the new mother and her baby in his vehicle to Victory Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention. The incident has sparked conversations around teenage pregnancy, student welfare, and the unique challenges some candidates face while writing national exams.
