Chaos Erupts at Wesley Senior High School as WASSCE Candidates Attack Teachers Over Strict Invigilation

A viol.ent incident marred the 2025 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Wesley Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region, after some candidates launched a series of attacks on teachers over strict exam supervision.
According to reports, the unrest began during the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) paper when teachers insisted on maintaining discipline and preventing cheating. The move infuriated some candidates, who later went on a rampage, pelting teachers with stones and sachet water. The situation became so tense that several teachers were forced to flee for their safety.
The violence escalated on the night of Sunday, September 7, 2025, when the candidates reportedly targeted the Senior House Mistress’s apartment. The students hurled stones at her residence, damaging parts of the kitchen roof and destroying crops — including cocoyam, maize, cassava, and plantain — in her personal garden.
Sources say the attack was a direct retaliation against the House Mistress, who had earlier prevented the students from engaging in examination malpractice during the CRS paper.
A teacher who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity revealed that the students had completed their exams on Friday but returned to the school premises in uniform on Sunday to execute their planned assault.
“We were with our Head of Department after the exam when a student came to inform us about the planned attack. Before we could act, a mob had already gathered at the school gate, vowing to harm us,” the teacher recounted.
Several teachers reportedly sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The incident has since been reported to the Konongo Police, who have increased security around the school. Authorities remain on high alert following reports that the students have threatened to return.
Education stakeholders and community members have condemned the violent conduct, calling for swift investigation and disciplinary action against those involved to prevent similar incidents in future examinations.
