The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rolled out an updated Single Spine Salary Structure, effective January 2026, as prepared by Kwame Yeboah KyereMateng and Afranse (M/A Basic). This structure introduces a 9% base pay increment across all levels and steps, reflecting a commitment to improving the financial well-being of educators. For instance, at Level 1L, Step 1, the old annual basic salary of GH¢6,589.36 has risen to GH¢7,182.40, translating to a new monthly salary of GH¢598.53, with an additional 15% market premium of GH¢89.78, bringing the gross income to GH¢688.31. After a 5.5% Social Security Fund (SSF) deduction of GH¢32.92 and a modest income tax of GH¢11.04, the net salary stands at GH¢644.35. Higher levels see more substantial increases, with Level 10H, Step 6, showing an old annual salary of GH¢57,006.55 rising to GH¢62,137.14, or GH¢5,178.10 monthly. Including a 15% market premium of GH¢776.71, the gross income reaches GH¢6,954.81, with SSF at GH¢284.80 and income tax at GH¢1,016.00, resulting in a net salary of GH¢4,654.01. The structure, which spans from Level 1L to 25H, ensures a progressive salary scale, with each step and level reflecting experience and responsibility.
