New Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu Drops Good News For All Teachers About Condition of Service

Minister-designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured improved teacher conditions under the Mahama administration, prioritizing access, quality, and relevance in tertiary education

Minister-designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured all teachers that their condition will be improved by the Mahama administration.

However, he said, this will be dependent on how much the economy would allow them to do.

Answering questions during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20, he said “We will improve the conditions of teachers to the extent that the economy can do.”

Mr Iddrisu further said that the Mahama administration will prioritise access, quality and relevance in tertiary education.

To improve access, he said, the government will focus on expanding infrastructure.

“Access, quality and relevance will be our focus in tertiary education,” he said.

Regarding science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, the Tamale South lawmaker said “We intend to build a model STEM schools in every region.”

On the free senior high school, he assured that President John Dramani Mahama would not cancel the programme.

“He will rather review it,” he said.

Mr Iddrisu also stated that “we will give true meaning to free, compulsory and universal education.”
