New Information Released on Teachers’ PDA and Digital Allowance Payments

New Information Released on Teachers’ PDA and Digital Allowance Payments

Teachers across the country are set to receive their long-awaited Professional Development Allowance (PDA) and Digital Allowance this November 2025, bringing relief and anticipation among educators as the year draws to a close. This update was confirmed by Mr. Isaac Nii Baah, a GNAT executive at the GNAT Headquarters in Accra, during an interview on GNAT Hour on Angel FM in Kumasi.

According to the information provided, the Professional Development Allowance—paid annually to support teachers’ continuous professional growth is GHC 2,400. This allowance is designed to help teachers acquire teaching and learning materials, participate in professional development programmes, and upgrade their skills to enhance teaching effectiveness in the classroom.

In addition to the PDA, teachers will also receive the Digital Allowance, which has been set for an amount of GHC 800. This allowance is meant to support teachers in acquiring digital tools and resources necessary for modern teaching, especially as technology continues to play an increasingly important role in Ghana’s education system. From laptops and tablets to internet connectivity, digital resources are becoming essential for delivering quality education.

However, Mr. Baah emphasized that unlike the Professional Development Allowance, the Digital Allowance is taxable. The exact amount of tax to be deducted will depend on the salary rank of each teacher, with deductions expected to range from GHC 140 to GHC 200. Higher-ranked teachers may therefore see slightly higher deductions than those in lower ranks.

Despite the taxable nature of the Digital Allowance, the announcement has been received positively by many teachers who have been patiently waiting for official communication regarding the disbursement. For many educators, these allowances play a crucial role in easing the financial burden associated with classroom management, lesson preparation, and digital readiness.

Mr. Baah assured teachers that the leadership of GNAT continues to advocate for better working conditions, improved welfare packages, and timely releases of allowances. He encouraged teachers to remain calm and patient as processing and payments are finalized by the relevant authorities.
