TEWU threatens indefinite strike on this date…over conditions of service
The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of Trade Union Congress (TUC) Ghana has threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action effective November 18, 2024, if the government fails to take immediate action to resolve all issues regarding their various conditions of service, amicably.
The union expressed its utmost concern and disappointment regarding the prolonged delay in concluding, signing, and implementing the conditions of service for the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as the Public Technical Universities and Public Universities, despite years of review negotiations.
According to the union, the issue regarding the various conditions of service, of their members, has been dragging on for years, and they expect it to have been implemented by now.
“Unfortunately, for the past four years, it has rather been back and forth with the government agencies. With the new academic year underway, especially, the admission process for first-year students entering the various institutions, our members cannot continue to work under uncertain conditions of service.”
“It must be reiterated that the patience of members, is running out, and we will be left with no option, but to embark on an indefinite industrial action, effective Monday, 1814 November 2024, if the government fails to take immediate action to resolve all issues regarding our various Conditions -of Service, amicably,” the union stated in a statement issued on Thursday, November 14, 2024
