Tyrone Marhguy wins American Math Olympiad Awards by beating 150,000 other students around the world
A rising star in the academic world is Tyrone Marhguy, the young Rastafarian whose dreadlocks almost kept him from being admitted to Achimota School.
Two renowned awards from the American Mathematics Olympiad 2023 have been given to him in recognition of his outstanding performance in grade 12.
Marhguy has outperformed almost 150,000 pupils globally with his outstanding achievement, earning him both the gold medal and the title of 2023 overall national top scorer. In addition, he excelled over 38,000 test-takers to win the Silver Award in the Vanda Science International Olympiad.
Marhguy has received recognition for his exceptional achievements as he has been elected into the prestigious International Junior Honor Society for the year 2023.
To add to his already outstanding list of achievements, Marhguy secured an impressive 8 As on Tuesday, December 19, in the West African Senior Secondary School Examinations (WASSCE).
His extraordinary achievement is evidence of his commitment and tenacity. It is critical to recognize Marhguy’s difficult journey, which was highlighted by a widely reported school admissions refusal that ignited a national conversation about discrimination.
But in the end, Marhguy and his fellow students won a historic legal battle as a result of this argument.
