Gov’t requests financial clearance to recruit 93,000 teachers – Education Minister

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has disclosed that the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance to secure financial clearance for a massive recruitment drive in the education sector.
Speaking at the 22nd edition of a stakeholders’ engagement, the Minister revealed that there is a significant staffing gap across various educational institutions. “In our space alone, we require 93,000 recruitments to fill vacancies both for institutions of higher learning, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, the Ghana Education Service and the TVET service,” he said.
According to him, the government recognizes that the shortage of teaching and administrative staff is affecting the quality of service delivery, especially at a time when Ghana’s population of school-going children continues to rise. The recruitment, he explained, would help strengthen the country’s educational infrastructure and ensure effective teaching and learning.
The Minister further assured stakeholders that once the Ministry of Finance grants the necessary clearance, the recruitment process will commence without delay. He stressed that the government remains committed to addressing human resource challenges in the education sector to meet both local and international standards.
The announcement has been welcomed by many education stakeholders, including teacher unions and parent associations, who have long called for more staff to reduce workload, improve supervision, and enhance the overall learning environment for students.
